French Nortel workers secure talks after blow-up threat:

Workers at the French arm of telecommunications manufacturer Nortel (NT.TO) have forced management into talks over layoff terms by threatening to blow up their factory, local authorities said on Wednesday.

Workers had placed gas cylinders that turned out to be empty in front of the plant in the Yvelines area near Paris after provisional management cancelled a planned meeting on Monday.

Was listening to coverage of this on the radio just now. As soon as I heard the opening line, “Workers in France are protesting layoffs by threatening to bomb the factory…” I pumped my fist and said YEAH not (merely) because I’m a bit of an anarchosyndicalist but because I love the tactic of resorting to threats of blowing shit up or taking bosses hostage if it means getting contract negotiations rolling. And even the wine-makers have gotten in on it.
